Toledo blows out Queen City, 6-1

The Toledo Cherokee were firing on all cylinders against the Queen City Steam, and when the final buzzer sounded Cherokee emerged with a 6-1 win.

Toledo was led by Tyler Zalecki, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Zalecki scored 19:26 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Toledo. David Bogart provided the assist.

The Cherokee excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Toledo forced Queen City goalie Matt McLaughlin to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. The Cherokee found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Toledo averages 3.6 goals per contest.

Toledo also got points from Jordan Prewitt, who also finished with one goal and two assists, Brett Podgorski, who also racked up two goals and one assist to lead the team in points, and Jordan Fogarty, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Toledo also got a goal from Connor Crowe as well. Other players who recorded assists for Toledo were Brody Duncan, who had two and Jake Manders, Donnie Nagle, Blake Podgorski, and Brandon Layman, who contributed one a piece.

The Steam's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Toledo power plays. Queen City did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Steam average 3.1 goals per game.

Nathan Miller recorded 22 saves for the Cherokee. Toledo incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. McLaughlin rejected 33 shots on goal for Queen City. The Steam incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
