Twin City completes comeback, beats Minnesota, 7-6

The Minnesota Flying Aces could not hold down the Twin City Steel, and Steel erased a two-goal deficit en route to a 7-6 win.

Twin City let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Steel took a 1-0 advantage on a goal by Ryan McAloon at 8:33 in the first period. Twin City went down 4-2 after Minnesota's Chase Myers-Beck put the puck home on the power play at 43 seconds in the third period. After evening things up at 6-6 on a goal by Noah Anderson at 12:38 in the third, the Steel got the game-winner from Brody Peterson at 14:56 in the third period.

Twin City racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. The Steel surpassed its season average of 29.0 penalty minutes per game. Twin City forced the Flying Aces' goaltenders to work all game long, totaling 38 shots and forcing 31 saves. Allen Patten made six stops and Rocco Yapello made 25. The Steel bested their season scoring average. Twin City averages 3.3 goals per game. The Steel got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game.

Twin City also got points from Tom Bartel, who also registered one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, Peterson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Kegan Storjohann, who also finished with one goal and one assist. More assists for Twin City came via Nick Cerrato, who had one, Calvin Miska, who had two, and Ryan Brown, who had three.

Minnesota made Twin City's netminders to work in net, getting 44 shots and forcing 38 saves. Sawyer Marshall made 22 stops and Joey Garapolo made 16. The Flying Aces surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Minnesota has scored at the pace of 2.6 goals per game during the current campaign.

The Flying Aces were helped by Payton Trammel, who had two goals. Trammel scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 13:26 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Minnesota had taken the advantage when the Steel's Storjohann got sent off for holding. Billy Wagner picked up the assist. Trammel's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Minnesota with 17:15 left in the second period. Dylan Nelson assisted on the tally. Jared Sprink also scored for Minnesota. Other players who recorded assists for Minnesota were Alex Yde, who had two and Zach Randell, Andre Pison, Patrick Kegley, and Blake Williams, who contributed one a piece.

Twin City registered three goals on nine power play opportunities. The Flying Aces incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
