Flint squeaks by Three Rivers, 4-2Alpha Ice Complex Sat, Nov 17, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Flint Jr. Generals gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Three Rivers Vengeance. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Nicholas Gnagni's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Jacob Howie had a great game for Flint, netting two goals. Howie found the back of the net on the power play 16:54 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Three Rivers and again while 9:58 into the third to make the score 2-2. Three Rivers' power play was ineffective against the Jr. Generals' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. Flint forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and three majors for 73 minutes in penalty time. The Jr. Generals had been averaging 39.0 minutes in penalties per game. Flint also got a goal from Ted Barile as well. More assists for Flint came via Lucas McDiarimid, who had three and Nicholas Goetel, Timothy Conser, James Odom, and Brett Leppek, who each chipped in one. The the Vengeance penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 11 minors and two majors for 82 minutes in penalty time. Three Rivers surpassed its season average of 29.0 penalty minutes per game. The Vengeance were helped by Michael Straub, who racked up one goal. Straub scored on the power play 12:49 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Three Rivers. Three Rivers had gotten the advantage when Flint's Casey Barile was sent off for interference. Robbie Sigurdsson provided the assist. Jonah Hoover also scored for Three Rivers. In addition, Three Rivers received assists from Alex Berardinelli, Tyler Stockwell, and Nico Vecchio, who contributed one a piece. Barile rejected 14 shots on goal for the Jr. Generals. Flint registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. For the Jr. Generals, Eric Jones was ejected from the game. Matthew Erlichman recorded 15 saves for the Vengeance. Three Rivers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Cory Myers was ejected from the game.
