St. Louis rolls over Peoria, 5-1

The Peoria Mustangs had trouble finding ways to stop the St. Louis Jr. Blues, which beat Mustangs, 5-1.

Peoria's power play was ineffective against St. Louis' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Jr. Blues were sparked by Cody Guidorzi, who grabbed one goal. Guidorzi scored 17:18 into the first period to make the score 2-0 St. Louis. Kyle Meeh picked up the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 10:30 into the third period. Fourteen fighting penalties were dished out along with nine game misconducts.

Both goalies were tossed from the game during the major incident in the third period.

St. Louis was often in penalty trouble, totaling 14 minors and four majors for 88 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 26.0 minutes per game the Jr. Blues had been spending in the box. St. Louis made the Mustangs' goaltenders to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots and forcing 44 saves. Matthew Pinel made 40 stops and Alex Reichle made four. The Jr. Blues were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to two goals off of 12 man advantages.

St. Louis additionally got points from Trace Jablin, who also racked up one goal and one assist. St. Louis also got a goal from Jeremy Edwards as well. In addition, St. Louis received assists from Lukas Daniels, Christian Argyros, and PJ Adams, who each chipped in one.

The Peoria penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 14 minors and five majors for 113 minutes in penalty time. The Mustangs had been averaging 29.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Peoria was led by Cody Lichtenvoort, who scored the team's only goal. Lichtenvoort scored on the power play 6:34 into the second period to make the score 3-1 St. Louis. The Mustangs had gotten the advantage when St. Louis' Adams was sent off for cross checking. Cory Kettler provided the assist.

Clint Steinmeyer recorded 16 saves for the Jr. Blues. For St. Louis, Edwards, Steinmeyer, and Lucas Stewart were ejected from the contest. Team's Nikolas Sakellaropoulos, Austin Wisely, Lichtenvoort, and Pinel were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
