Stirling leads Metro over Flint, 8-2

The Metro Jets' Matt Stirling had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing four assists in his team's 8-2 win over the Flint Jr. Generals.

Stirling beat Patrick Drazkowski with a shot 6:23 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Metro. Andrew Palushaj picked up the assist. Stirling dished an assist on Mike Gambino's goal that made the score 2-0 Metro at 11:12 into the first period. He then added assists on Palushaj's goal at 15:53 into the second, on Josh Hosking's goal at 6:37 into the third, and on Jeff Monfils' goal at 7:32 into the third.

Flint was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as Metro was able to score four times while on the power play.

The the Jets penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 11 minors and two majors for 52 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 23.0 minutes per game Metro had been spending in the box. The Jets kept the Jr. Generals' goalie busy throughout the game, and Drazkowski made 25 saves on 33 shots. Metro bested its season scoring average. This season, the Jets average 4.1 goals per contest.

Metro also got points from Doug Andrews, who also registered one goal and one assist, Palushaj, who also tallied one goal and four assists, Hosking, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Monfils, who also had two goals and one assist, and Gambino, who also registered one goal and one assist. Metro also got a goal from Alex Holm as well. Other players who recorded assists for Metro were Ryan Chapie, Zach Mac Kay, and Derek Britton, who each chipped in one.

Flint racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 15 minors and two majors for 60 minutes in penalty time. The Jr. Generals had been averaging 37.0 minutes in penalties per game. Flint was held below its usual level of production. The Jr. Generals put an average of 4.1 pucks into the net per game. Metro was unable to stop Flint from sending pucks towards the net, and the Jr. Generals eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. Flint had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on nine chances.

Alex Nedeljkovic rejected 38 shots on goal for the Jets. For Metro, Chapie was ejected from the game. The Jr. Generals ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Gary Majka was ejected from the game.
