Granite City vanquishes Alexandria in shootout, 3-2 (3-2 SO)

Drew Otto netted the deciding goal for the Granite City Lumberjacks in the shootout as Lumberjacks prevailed over the Alexandria Blizzard, 3-2 (3-2 SO).

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Alexandria's shootout goals were scored by Spencer Peratalo and Ian Eckland. In addition to the clincher, Granite City got shootout goals from Mitchell Gwost and Nick Turbitt.

The Lumberjacks' penalty kill excelled, as Granite City gave up zero goals despite allowing 10 power plays.

The Lumberjacks stifled the Blizzard's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Granite City could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Lumberjacks were helped by Aidan Verbeke, who tallied one goal. Verbeke scored 50 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-0 Granite City. Aaron Storch picked up the assist. Granite City also got a goal from DJ Vold as well. In addition, Granite City received assists from Gwost and Turbitt, who each chipped in one.

Alexandria put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Granite City to score on any of its six power plays. The Blizzard's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Alexandria finished with 32 penalty minutes.

The Blizzard were helped by Mick Dhein, who racked up one goal. Dhein scored 12:32 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Joe Anderson provided the assist. Austin Rudnick also scored for Alexandria. Other players who recorded assists for Alexandria were Eckland and Danny Pelzer, who contributed one a piece.

The Lumberjacks' Austin Wilson stopped 26 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Chase Wilson made 24 saves for Alexandria on 26 shots.
