St. Louis shrugs off penalties, upends Quad City, 6-1Affton Ice Rink Sun, Nov 04, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The St. Louis Jr. Blues' penalty kill was superb, as St. Louis survived multiple penalties to beat the Quad City Jr. Flames, 6-1. The Jr. Blues were led by Andrew Kovacich, who registered one goal and one assist. Kovacich scored 10:17 into the second period to make the score 2-0 St. Louis. Lukas Daniels picked up the assist. St. Louis was often in penalty trouble, totaling 15 minors and one major for 45 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 22.0 minutes per game the Jr. Blues had been spending in the box. St. Louis excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in nine chances. The Jr. Blues forced Quad City goalie Jake Leon to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. St. Louis also got points from Justin Rehrer, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Brycon Johnson, who also grabbed two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. St. Louis also got a goal from Jeremy Edwards as well. In addition, St. Louis received assists from Sam Turner and Tyler Opilka, who contributed one a piece and Kyle Meeh and Cody Guidorzi, who each chipped in two. The the Jr. Flames penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 13 minors and one major for 51 minutes in penalty time. Quad City surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. Clint Steinmeyer made 16 saves for St. Louis on 17 shots. The Jr. Blues registered three goals on seven power play opportunities. Leon rejected 34 shots on goal for the Jr. Flames.
