Barile stymies Toledo, Flint wins 4-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Ted Barile helped the Flint Jr. Generals defeat the Toledo Cherokee, 4-1.

Flint pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 59 penalty minutes.

The Jr. Generals were led by Nicholas Gnagni, who had one goal. Gnagni scored 10:30 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Flint. Lucas McDiarimid picked up the assist.

The defense for Flint tightened up when it had players in the penalty box, as it let in one goal on 11 Toledo power plays.

Flint additionally got points from Jacob Howie, who also racked up one goal and one assist and McDiarimid, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Flint also got a goal from Brett Leppek as well. More assists for Flint came via Adam Beuthin, who had one and Adrain Larsson and Conner McGovern, who contributed two a piece.

The the Cherokee penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and one major for 73 minutes in penalty time. Toledo surpassed its season average of 30.0 penalty minutes per game. The Cherokee were held below their usual level of production. Toledo puts an average of 3.9 pucks into the net per game. The Cherokee kept the Jr. Generals' goalie busy throughout the game, and Barile made 31 saves on 32 shots.

Flint registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. For the Jr. Generals, Gary Majka was ejected from the game. Josh Cliff made 16 saves for Toledo on 20 shots.
