Breezy Point erases deficit to stun Granite City, 5-4

The Breezy Point North Stars climbed out of a two-goal hole to beat the Granite City Lumberjacks, 5-4.

Breezy Point let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The North Stars took a 3-2 advantage on a short handed goal by Bryson Jasper at 7:36 in the second period. Breezy Point found itself down 2-0 after Granite City's Blake Phenow put the puck home at 12:51 in the first period. After evening things up at 4-4 on a short handed goal by Brett Love at 15:51 in the third, the North Stars got the game-winner from Kyle Eberwein at 16:26 in the third period.

Jasper was all over the ice for Breezy Point, as he had two goals in the win.

The North Stars put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Lumberjacks to score on any of their three power plays. Breezy Point bested its season scoring average. The North Stars have scored at the pace of 2.2 goals per game during the current campaign. Breezy Point got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Breezy Point also got a goal from Bo Borowski as well. In addition, Breezy Point received assists from Kyle Whipple, who had one and Anthony Martinez, who had two.

Granite City forced the North Stars goalie Erikur Arnason to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. The Lumberjacks' defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. Granite City gives up 2.1 goals per game. The Lumberjacks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Granite City was helped by Zac Sikich, who grabbed one goal. Sikich scored 6:37 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Granite City. Aaron Azevedo assisted on the tally. Nick Turbitt also scored for Granite City. More assists for Granite City came via Matt Peterson, DJ Vold, Ryan Carriveau, and Michael Lawrence, who each chipped in one.

Arnason recorded 37 saves for Breezy Point. The North Stars incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Austin Wilson made 14 saves for the Lumberjacks on 19 shots.
