Peoria blows out Minnesota, 4-1

The Peoria Mustangs were firing on all cylinders against the Minnesota Flying Aces, and when the final buzzer sounded Mustangs emerged with a 4-1 win.

Minnesota was stymied by Peoria netminder Michael Parda, who stopped 38 shots during the victory. Parda managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.5 prior to the game.

The Mustangs were led by Cory Kettler, who tallied one goal and one assist. Kettler scored 3:22 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Peoria. Austin Wisely provided the assist.

Peoria racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 23.0 minutes per game the Mustangs had been spending in the box. Peoria's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Minnesota power plays.

Peoria also got points from Brennan Anderson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Levi Armstrong also scored for Peoria. In addition, Peoria received assists from Kevin Piskie, Connor Millard, Garth Wagner, Austin Fletcher, and Gage Van Order, who contributed one a piece.

The Flying Aces forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Minnesota had been averaging 18.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Flying Aces forced the Mustangs goalie Parda to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots.

Peoria registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Minnesota's Michael Stumpf stopped 19 shots out of the 23 that he faced.
