Toledo wins tough contest against Cleveland, 7-5

The game between the Toledo Cherokee and the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Toledo emerged with a 7-5 win.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Blake Podgorski secured the win for the Cherokee with a goal in the third period.

Tyler Zalecki was all over the ice for Toledo, as he tallied one goal and three assists in the win. Zalecki scored short handed 16:03 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Toledo. The Cherokee were on a disadvantage when Jake Manders went off the ice for roughing.

Toledo forced Cleveland's goalies to work without much rest, getting 33 shots and forcing 26 saves. David Heflin made 14 stops and Christan Michalik made 12. The Cherokee's goal total was higher than their season average. Toledo averages 3.9 goals per game. The Cherokee's penalty kill was ineffective, and let in three goals to the Jr. Lumberjacks' power play unit.

Toledo additionally got points from Zachary Armstrong, who also had two goals and one assist. Donnie Nagle also scored for Toledo. More assists for Toledo came via Parker Hack, who had one.

Cleveland's offense rang up 40 shots on Toledo's net.

The Jr. Lumberjacks were helped by Nick Balavich, who registered one goal. Balavich scored 1:50 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Toledo. Toms Taurins provided the assist. Cleveland also got points from Andrew Mitch, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Cleveland also got a goal from Louis Sawchik as well. Other players who recorded assists for Cleveland were Bo Zinner, Andrew Sprouse, Cameron Dimmitt, and Zach Seither, who contributed one a piece.

The Cherokee's Nathan Miller stopped 35 shots out of the 40 that he faced. Toledo incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Cleveland incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
