Metro stifles Quad City's comeback, gains 4-2 victory

The Metro Jets came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Quad City Jr. Flames, but did just enough to escape with a 4-2 victory.

Metro led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Jets' Jeff Monfils' scored on the power play at 16:03 in the second period to put Metro up 3-0.

Alex Holm had one goal and two assists to lead the Jets. Holm scored 19:21 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Metro. Travis Hargett assisted on the tally.

Quad City's power play was ineffective against Metro's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Jets found themselves short handed often, totaling 30 penalty minutes and allowing nine power plays.

Metro also got points from Monfils, who also had one goal and two assists and Mike Gambino, who also registered one goal and one assist. Brian Ziola also scored for Metro. Other players who recorded assists for Metro were Ryan Chapie and Doug Andrews, who contributed one a piece.

The Jr. Flames were led by Easton Halbert, who finished with two goals. Halbert scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 3:19 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Metro. Quad City had taken the advantage when Metro's Gambino got sent off for boarding. Peter Coppola provided the assist. Halbert's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Metro with 11:03 left in the third period. Chayce Coenen assisted on the tally. In addition, Quad City received assists from Luke Dickinson and Owen Ahlstrom, who each chipped in one.

Trevor Kalinowski recorded 20 saves for the Jets. Metro registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. The Jr. Flames' starting goalie, Zak Kemble, made four saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Robby Vukelich, who stopped 15 shots. Quad City incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
