Flint uses early goal to top Three Rivers, 3-1

The Flint Jr. Generals took the lead against the Three Rivers Vengeance in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 3-1 victory.

A goal 4:21 into the the first period by Eric Jones proved to be the game winner, and powered Flint to the victory Andrew Lay assisted on the tally.

Jones had a great game for the Jr. Generals, netting two goals.

Flint was led by goalie Ted Barile, who finished with 34 saves while allowing one goal. Barile managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.17 prior to the game.

The Jr. Generals excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Flint kept Three Rivers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Nate Mortland made 37 saves on 40 shots.

Flint additionally got points from Edward Osowski, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Flint were Phillip Garza and Nicholas Goetel, who contributed one a piece.

The Vengeance's offense rang up 35 shots on the Jr. Generals' net.

Three Rivers was led by Chase Leonelli, who scored the team's only goal. Leonelli scored 13:18 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Flint. Michael Straub picked up the assist.

Flint incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Vengeance incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
