Granite City rolls over St. Louis, 6-2

The St. Louis Jr. Blues had trouble finding ways to stop the Granite City Lumberjacks, which beat Jr. Blues, 6-2.

Granite City was led by Aaron Storch, who registered one goal. Storch scored 10:28 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Granite City. Ryan Carriveau provided the assist.

In a losing effort, St. Louis was paced by Mike Lozano, who tallied two goals. Lozano scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 7:48 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Granite City. The Jr. Blues had gotten the advantage when the Lumberjacks' Drew Otto was sent off for slashing. Trey Dodd picked up the assist. Lozano's next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 Granite City with 9:32 left in the second period. St. Louis had gained a power play chance when Blayne Ellson was whistled for checking from behind. Trace Jablin provided the assist.

Granite City forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 13 minors and one major for 61 minutes in penalty time. The Lumberjacks had been averaging 28.0 minutes in penalties per game. Granite City forced the Jr. Blues goalie Clint Steinmeyer to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. The Lumberjacks had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on 11 chances.

Granite City additionally got points from Nathan Kohlenhoefer, who also had one goal and one assist.
