Flint survives Three Rivers comeback, wins 4-3

The Three Rivers Vengeance tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Flint Jr. Generals held on for a 4-3 victory.

A goal by Edward Osowski put Flint up 4-1 in the third period, but Three Rivers pulled to within one on Alex Berardinelli's tally 19:48 into the third period.

In a losing effort, the Vengeance were led by Berardinelli, who grabbed two goals. Berardinelli scored the first of his two goals short handed at 15 seconds into the third period to make the score 3-1 Flint. Gavin Cummings assisted on the tally. Berardinelli's next tally short handed made the score 4-3 Flint with 12 seconds left in the third period. Three Rivers had gotten the advantage when the Jr. Generals' Casey Barile was sent off for cross checking. Robbie Sigurdsson picked up the assist.

Flint was often in penalty trouble, totaling 13 minors and three majors for 101 minutes in penalty time. The Jr. Generals surpassed its season average of 39.0 penalty minutes per game. Flint forced the Vengeance goalie Tyler Stepke to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. Team could not crack Three Rivers' penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 11 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

The Jr. Generals were helped by Nicholas Gnagni, who registered one goal and one assist. Gnagni scored 1:18 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Flint. Trevor Benaglio provided the assist. Flint additionally got points from Nicholas Goetel, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Osowski, who also had one goal and one assist. Eric Jones also scored for Flint. More assists for Flint came via Andrew Lay, who had two and Phillip Garza and Lucas McDiarimid, who contributed one a piece.

The the Vengeance penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 15 minors and one major for 65 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 23.0 minutes per game Three Rivers had been spending in the box. The Vengeance were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to two goals off of 12 man advantages.

Three Rivers also got a goal from Jonah Hoover as well. In addition, Three Rivers received assists from Kevin Kenny, who had one.

Ted Barile made 27 saves for Flint on 30 shots. Team's Adrain Larsson and Barile were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Stepke recorded 36 saves for Three Rivers.
