Granite City blows out St. Louis, 6-1

The Granite City Lumberjacks had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-1 win over the St. Louis Jr. Blues.

Granite City was led by goalie Scott Murray, who finished with 28 saves while allowing one goal. Murray managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.74 prior to the game.

The Lumberjacks were led by Nathan Kohlenhoefer, who racked up one goal. Kohlenhoefer scored 15:34 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Granite City. Mitch Humphries provided the assist.

Granite City excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances.

Granite City also got points from Eric Miller, who also registered one goal and one assist and Humphries, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Granite City included Aaron Storch, who had one and Aidan Verbeke, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Granite City were Drew Otto, who had three and Matt Peterson, Aaron Azevedo, Tim Brown, and Brett Love, who each chipped in one.

St. Louis could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Jr. Blues put an average of 5.3 pucks into the net per game. St. Louis' defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. The Jr. Blues are averaging 1.6 goal against for the season.

St. Louis was led by Trace Jablin, who scored the team's only goal. Jablin scored 7:59 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Brycon Johnson assisted on the tally.

The Lumberjacks incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Mikael Broliden recorded 21 saves for the Jr. Blues. St. Louis incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
