Michigan shrugs off penalties, upends Battle Creek, 8-2

The Battle Creek Revolution failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Michigan Mountain Cats shook off a number of penalties to win, 8-2.

Michigan was paced by Derek Ried, who racked up one goal. Ried scored 6:36 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Michigan.

The Mountain Cats excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Michigan kept Battle Creek's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jackson Steltmann made 38 saves on 46 shots. The Mountain Cats' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Michigan averages 4.7 goals per contest.

Michigan also got points from John Arms, who also had one goal and two assists, Kade Morrison, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Guy Soulliere, who also registered one goal and two assists, and Marshall Helton, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Michigan included Ethan Baker, who had one and Austin Sartorius, who had two. In addition, Michigan received assists from Jacob Ulicny, James Gleason, Kent Wargo, Ben Mack, and Alex Kopek, who contributed one a piece.

The Revolution's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Michigan power plays.

Battle Creek was helped by Zachary Mabie, who had one goal. Mabie scored 14:32 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Austin Hill picked up the assist. Battle Creek additionally got points from Hill, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Battle Creek were Eric Tucker, Joshua Kimber, and Cory Markovich, who each chipped in one.

Ian Dvorak recorded 21 saves for the Mountain Cats. Michigan incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Revolution incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
