Toledo blows out Battle Creek, 8-3

The Battle Creek Revolution had trouble finding ways to stop the Toledo Cherokee, which beat Revolution, 8-3.

Alec Gerred had two goals and two assists to lead Toledo. Gerred scored the first of his two goals at 6:49 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Toledo. Connor Crowe picked up the assist. Gerred's next tally made the score 5-2 Toledo with 6:02 left in the second period. The Cherokee found themselves down a man on Kyler Omey's head contact. Crowe assisted on the tally.

Battle Creek's power play was ineffective against Toledo's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Cherokee's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Battle Creek power plays. The Revolution were unable to stop Toledo from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cherokee eventually piled up 47 shots on goal. Toledo bested its season scoring average. The Cherokee have scored at the pace of 3.7 goals per game during the current campaign. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals.

Toledo additionally got points from Brody Duncan, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Tyler Zalecki, who also registered one goal and one assist, Omey, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Jordan Fogarty, who also had two goals and two assists. Toledo also got a goal from Devon Eckman as well. In addition, Toledo received assists from Brandon Layman, who had two and Donnie Nagle and Parker Hack, who each chipped in one.

Battle Creek forced Toledo goalie Hunter Vorva to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. The Revolution struggled on the penalty kill, allowing the Cherokee to score three power play goals on five chances. Battle Creek's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Revolution finished with 24 penalty minutes.

Battle Creek was led by Joey Lioy, who racked up two goals and one assist. Lioy scored the first of his two goals at 21 seconds into the second period to make the score 3-2 Toledo. Lioy's next tally made the score 7-3 Toledo with 15:32 left in the third period. Zach Rees provided the assist. Tevor Clark also scored for Battle Creek. Other players who recorded assists for Battle Creek were Austin Hill, who had one.

Hunter Vorva made 30 saves for Toledo on 33 shots. The Cherokee incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Trevor Beck recorded 39 saves for the Revolution.
