Wilson leads Granite City to shutout victory over Minnesota

Austin Wilson made 28 saves to complete the shutout and led the Granite City Lumberjacks to a 4-0 win against the Minnesota Flying Aces.

Granite City's penalty kill excelled, as the Lumberjacks gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Granite City was paced by DJ Vold, who tallied one goal and one assist. Vold scored on the power play 10:30 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Granite City. The Lumberjacks had gained a power play chance when Alex Yde was whistled for high sticking. Nick Turbitt provided the assist.

Granite City forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and two majors for 38 minutes in penalty time. The Lumberjacks had been averaging 22.0 minutes in penalties per game. Granite City stifled Minnesota's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Lumberjacks' offense rang up 35 shots on the Flying Aces' net.

Granite City also had goals scored by Blayne Ellson, who had one and Aidan Verbeke, who had two. More assists for Granite City came via Matt Raiola and Drew Otto, who contributed two a piece.

The Minnesota penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and three majors for 29 minutes in penalty time. The Flying Aces surpassed its season average of 23.0 penalty minutes per game. Minnesota's penalty kill unit could not stop Granite City's power play, which converted on four of five opportunities.

Chris Amsden made 31 saves for the Flying Aces on 35 shots.
