Huge game by Miller boosts Granite City over North Iowa, 4-1Armadillo Deck Arena East Fri, Sep 21, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Granite City Lumberjacks' Eric Miller had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing two assists in his team's 4-1 win over the North Iowa Bulls. Miller got on the board by slotting home a goal 4:48 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Granite City. Aidan Verbeke assisted on the tally. Miller dished an assist on Alex Koopmeiners' goal that made the score 1-0 Granite City at 19:41 into the first period. He added another helper on Drew Otto's goal that made the score 3-1 Granite City at 8:56 into the third period.North Iowa was stymied by Granite City netminder Scott Murray, who stopped 25 shots during the victory. The solid play of Murray will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 1.99. The Lumberjacks stifled the Bulls' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. North Iowa was unable to stop Granite City from sending pucks towards the net, and the Lumberjacks eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. Granite City additionally got points from Koopmeiners, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Aaron Azevedo also scored for Granite City. In addition, Granite City received assists from Michael Lawrence, Brett Love, and Mitch Humphries, who each chipped in one. The Bulls put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Granite City to score on any of its five power plays. North Iowa's offense operated below it season average. The Bulls put an average of 4.0 pucks into the net per game. North Iowa was led by Brody Peterson, who scored the team's only goal. Peterson scored short handed 5:19 into the second period to make the score 1-1. The Bulls played down a man on Conor Jonasson's high sticking. Taylor Brown picked up the assist. The Lumberjacks ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. North Iowa's Matthew Bartels stopped 36 shots out of the 40 that he faced. The Bulls totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 0-for-4 on the power play.
