Granite City holds on for 4-3 win against Minnesota

The Minnesota Flying Aces tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Granite City Lumberjacks held on for a 4-3 victory.

A goal by Michael Lawrence put Granite City up 4-2 in the second period, but Minnesota pulled to within one on Billy Wagner's tally 3:42 into the third period.

The Lumberjacks were led by Lawrence, who had one goal. Lawrence scored 16:15 into the second period to make the score Granite City. Blayne Ellson assisted on the tally.

The Flying Aces were unable to stop Granite City from sending pucks towards the net, and the Lumberjacks eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.

Granite City also got points from Aaron Storch, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Tim Brown also scored for Granite City. Other players who recorded assists for Granite City were DJ Vold and Mitch Humphries, who each chipped in one.

Minnesota was helped by Payton Trammel, who finished with one goal. Trammel scored 15:08 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Granite City. Wagner picked up the assist. Minnesota additionally got points from Wagner, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Minnesota also got a goal from Andre Pison as well. More assists for Minnesota came via Alex Yde, Jared Sprink, and Brett Sorem, who contributed one a piece.

Granite City's Austin Wilson stopped 25 shots out of the 28 that he faced. The Lumberjacks totaled 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Chris Amsden rejected 34 shots on goal for the Flying Aces. Minnesota totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
