Queen City survives Toledo comeback, wins 2-1

The Queen City Steam survived a determined comeback attempt by the Toledo Cherokee on the way to a 2-1 win.

Queen City took a 2-0 lead during the second period, only to have Toledo storm back on a Alec Gerred goal 16:24 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Steam's Adam Eno was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 31 saves and let only one puck past him. Eno managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.67 prior to the game.

Queen City was led by Trevor Knoll, who grabbed one goal. Knoll scored 19:16 into the second period to make the score Queen City. Damien Lona assisted on the tally.

The the Steam penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. Queen City had been averaging 21.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Steam stifled the Cherokee's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

John Bonta also scored for Queen City. More assists for Queen City came via Stephen Pack, who had one and Nick Brusa, who had two.

Toledo put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Queen City to score on any of its five power plays. The Cherokee's offense rang up 32 shots on the Steam's net. Toledo was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 51 penalty minutes.

In addition, Toledo received assists from Brody Duncan, who had one.

For Queen City, Pack was ejected from the game. Josh Cliff made 26 saves for the Cherokee on 28 shots. Toledo registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. The Cherokee ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jake Manders was ejected from the game.
