Fairbanks hangs on, beats Kenai River 3-2

The Fairbanks Ice Dogs beat the Kenai River Brown Bears, 3-2, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

Fairbanks took over the lead for good with a goal by Garret Clemment at 7:28 in the first period.

The Ice Dogs were led by Taylor Munson, who had one goal. Munson scored 9:48 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Fairbanks. Lawrence Cornellier picked up the assist.

Fairbanks relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Kyle Lee, Johnny Meuller and Clemment took 14 of the team's 25 shots.

Fairbanks also got points from Devin Loe, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Fairbanks also got a goal from Colton Wolter as well. In addition, Fairbanks received assists from Duggie Lagrone, Nick Hinz, and Jakob Romo, who each chipped in one.

Kenai River excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. By firing 35 shots on goal, the Brown Bears exceeded the 27.4 shots they average per game this year.

Kenai River was helped by Chris Nuth, who grabbed one goal. Nuth scored 18:46 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Fairbanks. Conor Deal provided the assist. Alec Butcher also scored for Kenai River. Other players who recorded assists for Kenai River were Vincent Stefan and Albin Karlsson, who contributed one a piece.

Kevin Aldridge rejected 33 shots on goal for the Ice Dogs. Fairbanks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Marcus Zelzer recorded 22 saves for the Brown Bears. Kenai River incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
