The Odessa Jackalopes almost clawed their way back from a four-goal deficit, but the Corpus Christi IceRays managed to pull out a 7-5 win in the end. Corpus Christi led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the IceRays' Michael Economos's scored short handed at 10:04 in the third period to put Corpus Christi up 6-2. The IceRays got the win with help from a great game by Emil Romig, who had two goals and one assist. Romig scored the first of his two goals at 5:44 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Corpus Christi. Beau Walker picked up the assist. Romig's next tally made the score 2-0 Corpus Christi with 8:53 left in the first period. A slashing penalty on Jude Warner had put Corpus Christi on the power play. Rudy Sulmonde provided the assist. The IceRays bested their season scoring average. Corpus Christi averages 3.2 goals per game. Penalties took their toll on the IceRays, as their penalty kill unit let in four power play goals. Corpus Christi's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the IceRays finished with 26 penalty minutes. Corpus Christi put 37 shots on net during the contest, more than the 26.5 it averages per game. Corpus Christi also got a goal from Ryan McNeely as well. More assists for Corpus Christi came via AJ Jarosz, who had two and John Roisum, Brandon Smith, Perry DArrisso, Nick Monfils, and Wayland Williams, who contributed one a piece. Odessa forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and one major for 43 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 22.0 minutes per game the Jackalopes had been spending in the box. Odessa's goal total was higher than its season average. The Jackalopes have scored at the pace of 2.0 goals per game during the current campaign. The 38 shots that Odessa put on net surpassed the Jackalopes' average of 16.7 shots per game this season. Odessa was led by Corey Hoffman, who tallied one goal and one assist. Hoffman scored on the power play 11:53 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Corpus Christi. The Jackalopes had taken the advantage when the IceRays' Jarosz got sent off for cross checking. Jimmy Peplinski picked up the assist. Taylor Portner also scored for Odessa. In addition, Odessa received assists from Rif Taff, who had one and Anthony Olguin, who had three. Hayden Stewart rejected 33 shots on goal for Corpus Christi. The IceRays registered two goals on four power play opportunities. Nick Deery recorded 30 saves for Odessa.
