Kalamazoo hangs on, beats Springfield 1-0

The Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings took the lead against the Springfield Jr. Blues in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 1-0 victory.

Kalamazoo took over the lead for good with a goal by Mac McDonnell at 9:30 in the first period. Luc Boby picked up the assist.

Marcus Due-Boje spearheaded the defensive effort for the Jr. K-Wings, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 36 saves for the shutout. The solid play of Due-Boje will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.15.

Kalamazoo was sparked by McDonnell, who registered one goal.

The Jr. K-Wings put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Springfield to score on any of its four power plays. Kalamazoo was held below its usual level of production. The Jr. K-Wings average 3.1 goals per game. Kalamazoo featured an improved defense during the game. The Jr. K-Wings allow 2.8 goals per game.

More assists for Kalamazoo came via Trevor Boyd, who had one.

The Jr. Blues excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Springfield did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Jr. Blues put an average of 2.6 pucks into the net per game. Kalamazoo was unable to stop Springfield from sending pucks towards the net, and the Jr. Blues eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

Springfield was led by Brett Skibba, who took nine shots.

The Jr. K-Wings incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Jr. Blues' Matt Leon stopped 25 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Springfield incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
