Brookings boosted by Weigman's play in net, beats Aberdeen 3-1Larson Ice Center Red Fri, Mar 29, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
A stellar performance between the pipes by Drew Weigman helped the Brookings Blizzard defeat the Aberdeen Wings, 3-1. Brookings was paced by Craig Lindegard, who racked up one goal and one assist. Lindegard scored 19:54 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Brookings. Drew Brevig picked up the assist. The Blizzard stifled Aberdeen's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Brookings' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Blizzard finished with 38 penalty minutes. Brookings also got a goal from Justin Moody as well. In addition, Brookings received assists from Jared Docken, Brandon Parker, and Thomas Williams, who contributed one a piece. With 35 shots on target during the contest, the Wings exceeded the 26.2 shots they average per game this year. Aberdeen was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 30 penalty minutes. The Wings were led by Jordan Heller, who scored the team's only goal. Heller scored 10:22 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Aberdeen. Peter Krieger provided the assist. Drew Weigman made 34 saves for Brookings on 35 shots. The Blizzard registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Zach Nagelvoort recorded 26 saves for Aberdeen. The Wings registered zero goals on four power play opportunities. |
