Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Johnstown Tomahawks defeated the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings in a shootout 2-1 (4-3 SO). The shootout featured 20 attempts between both teams. Kalamazoo's shootout goals were scored by Robbie Payne, Taylor Burden, and Kody Polin. Johnstown's other shootout goals were scored by Cobi Smith-Mass, Mitch Kontny, and Cody Bentzel.The Jr. K-Wings were stymied by the Tomahawks netminder Chris Truehl, who stopped 29 shots during the victory. The solid play of Truehl will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.42. Johnstown's offense was clicking better than usual and put 39 shots on goal during the game, better than the 27.2 shots per game it averages. The Tomahawks were led by Zack Wallace, who finished with one goal. Wallace scored on the power play 11:39 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Johnstown. Johnstown had gotten the advantage when Kalamazoo's Sam Johnson was sent off for slashing. Mitch Hall picked up the assist. In addition, Johnstown received assists from Jeff Bergh, who had one. The Jr. K-Wings did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Kalamazoo averages 3.1 goals per game. The Jr. K-Wings were led by Mike Fazio, who scored the team's only goal. Fazio scored on the power play 17:36 into the third period to make the score 1-1. A delay of game penalty on Jake Fairchild had put Kalamazoo on the power play. Brendan Vetter provided the assist. The Tomahawks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Jr. K-Wings' Alex Okicki stopped 37 shots out of the 38 that he faced.
