Amarillo beats Corpus Christi 4-2 after comeback scareAmericanBank Center Sat, Mar 23, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Amarillo Bulls survived a determined comeback attempt by the Corpus Christi IceRays on the way to a 4-2 win. Amarillo took a 4-1 lead during the third period, only to have Corpus Christi storm back on a Michael Economos goal 18:31 into the third period to pull to two goals down. The 38 shots that the Bulls put on net surpassed Amarillo's average of 31.1 shots per game this season. The Bulls were led by Hampus Gustafsson, who finished with one goal and one assist. Gustafsson scored 12:30 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Amarillo. Dan McNamara assisted on the tally. Amarillo also got a goal from Tyler Gernhofer as well. In addition, Amarillo received assists from Omar Mullan, Ryan Cole, Mike Davis, and Matt Sieckhaus, who contributed one a piece. The IceRays stifled Amarillo's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Corpus Christi's offense was clicking better than usual and put 28 shots on goal during the game, better than the 24.9 shots per game it averages. Rudy Sulmonde also scored for Corpus Christi. More assists for Corpus Christi came via Brandon Smith, Ryan Chiasson, and Wayland Williams, who each chipped in one. Paul Berrafato rejected 26 shots on goal for the Bulls. Amarillo incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Hayden Stewart recorded 34 saves for the IceRays. Corpus Christi incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
