Jamestown outlasts Kalamazoo, 4-2The Arena Sun, Mar 17, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Jamestown Ironmen escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Elliot Tisdale secured the win for Jamestown with a goal in the third period. Luc Gerdes had two goals to lead the Ironmen to victory. Gerdes' tallies came at 18:26 into the second period to make the score 2-2 and 19:48 into the third to make the score 4-2 Jamestown. Jamestown stifled Kalamazoo's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The defense for the Ironmen played an important role offensively, racking up 18 shots on goal. Jamestown put 41 shots on net during the contest, more than the 30.6 it averages per game. Jamestown also got a goal from Tyler Dunagan as well. In addition, Jamestown received assists from Ryan Urso, Huba Sekesi, Joe Mottiqua, Ross Pavek, Michael Mazzotta, and Evan Ritt, who each chipped in one. The Jr. K-Wings' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Jamestown power plays. Kalamazoo averages 29.4 shots on goal per game, but only sent 22 pucks on net against the Ironmen. The Jr. K-Wings were helped by Danny Hamburg, who racked up one goal. Hamburg scored 8:36 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kalamazoo. Taylor Burden picked up the assist. Kyle Gattelaro also scored for Kalamazoo. More assists for Kalamazoo came via Patrick Spellacy, Brennan Sanford, and Christian George, who contributed one a piece. Joe Ballmer made 20 saves for Jamestown on 22 shots. The Ironmen incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Kalamazoo's Alex Okicki stopped 37 shots out of the 40 that he faced. The Jr. K-Wings incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
