Kenai River stifles Wenatchee's comeback, gains 7-5 victory

The Wenatchee Wild almost clawed their way back from a four-goal deficit, but the Kenai River Brown Bears managed to pull out a 7-5 win in the end.

Kenai River led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Brown Bears' Zac Lazzaro's scored on the power play at 2:34 in the third period to put Kenai River up 6-2.

Brad Duwe had two goals and three assists to lead the Brown Bears. Duwe scored the first of his two goals short handed at 6:24 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Kenai River. Kenai River found itself down a man on Judd Loewenstein's interference. Duwe's next tally short handed made the score 8-5 Kenai River with five seconds left in the third period. Jacob Davidson provided the assist.

The Brown Bears forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and two majors for 40 minutes in penalty time. Kenai River surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. The Brown Bears bested their season scoring average. Kenai River averages 3.0 goals per game. The Brown Bears struggled on the penalty kill, allowing Wenatchee to score four power play goals on seven chances. By firing 40 shots on goal, Kenai River exceeded the 27.1 shots it averages per game this year.

Kenai River additionally got points from Vincent Stefan, who also racked up one goal and three assists and Matt Seidel, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Kenai River also got a goal from Albin Karlsson as well. More assists for Kenai River came via Mikhail Bushinski, who had one and Ryan Walker, who had two.

The Wild's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. Wenatchee averages 2.4 goals allowed per game. The Wild could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 25 minutes in penalties during the game. The 36 shots that Wenatchee put on net surpassed the Wild's average of 28.2 shots per game this season.

Wenatchee was led by Chris Kerr, who had three goals. Jacob Barber also scored for Wenatchee. Other players who recorded assists for Wenatchee were Jono Davis, who had two, Trevor Stewart and Max McHugh, who contributed one a piece, and Joshua Hartley and Noah Nelson, who each chipped in three.

Kris Oldham recorded 31 saves for the Brown Bears. Kenai River registered three goals on six power play opportunities. The Brown Bears ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Dylan Meier was ejected from the game. Robert Nichols took the loss and made 21 saves before being replaced by Nick Schmit who made 12 saves.
