McCarthy, Kenai River blank Wenatchee, 3-0

Evan McCarthy was superb between the pipes for the Kenai River Brown Bears, as he did not allow a goal in a 3-0 victory over the Wenatchee Wild.

Kenai River was paced by Dylan Meier, who had one goal. Meier scored 8:45 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kenai River. Jacob Davidson assisted on the tally.

The Brown Bears put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Wenatchee to score on any of its three power plays. Kenai River featured an improved defense during the game. The Brown Bears gives up 2.9 goals on average per game.

Kenai River also got a goal from Judd Loewenstein as well. Other players who recorded assists for Kenai River were Alex Jackstadt and Zack Zulkanycz, who each chipped in one.

The Wild forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up four minors and three majors for 33 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 26.0 minutes per game Wenatchee had been spending in the box. The Wild excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Wenatchee's offense operated below it season average. The Wild put an average of 3.2 pucks into the net per game. With 36 shots on target during the contest, Wenatchee exceeded the 28.5 shots it averages per game this year.

The Wild were led by Jono Davis, who took five shots.

Kenai River's McCarthy stopped 36 shots out of the 36 that he faced. The Brown Bears ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and three majors. Robert Nichols rejected 26 shots on goal for Wenatchee.
