GAME RECAP

Fairbanks holds on for 2-1 win against Fresno

Big Dipper Ice Arena    Thu, Mar 14, 2013

The Fairbanks Ice Dogs survived a determined comeback attempt by the Fresno Monsters on the way to a 2-1 win.

Fairbanks took a 2-0 lead during the third period, only to have Fresno storm back on a Jacob McDowell goal 10:59 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

Jacob Hetz had two goals to lead the Ice Dogs to victory.

Fairbanks stifled the Monsters' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. By firing 40 shots on goal, the Ice Dogs exceeded the 28.0 shots they average per game this year.

Other players who recorded assists for Fairbanks were Kyle Lee, who had two and Garret Clemment and Colton Wolter, who contributed one a piece.

Fresno managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Monsters ended up below its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. The 21 shots that Fresno put on net surpassed the Monsters' average of 14.8 shots per game this season.

In addition, Fresno received assists from Karl Andersen and Dan Sherer, who each chipped in one.

Fairbanks' Steve Perry stopped 20 shots out of the 21 that he faced. The Ice Dogs incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Macauley Haight made 38 saves for Fresno on 40 shots. The Monsters registered zero goals on four power play opportunities.
