Austin outlasts Coulee Region, 5-3

The game between the Austin Bruins and the Coulee Region Chill was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Austin emerged with a 5-3 win.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by AJ Reid at 18:56 of the second period.

Jay Dickman had one goal and three assists to lead the Bruins. Dickman scored 14:06 into the second period to make the score 2-2.

Coulee Region's power play was ineffective against Austin's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Bruins forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game Austin had been spending in the box. The Bruins forced the Chill goalie Tim Shaughnessy to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

Austin also got points from Reid, who also registered one goal and one assist. Austin also got a goal from John Simonson as well. Other players who recorded assists for Austin were Brandon Wahlin, who had two and Drew Anderson and Cody Dixon, who each chipped in one.

The 38 shots that Coulee Region put on net surpassed the Chill's average of 26.7 shots per game this season.

Coulee Region was helped by Hunter Anderson, who racked up one goal. Anderson scored on the power play 2:43 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Coulee Region. Brady Riesgraf assisted on the tally. Jesse Tredinnick also scored for Coulee Region. In addition, Coulee Region received assists from Derek Smith, Kevin Becker, and Mac Jansen, who contributed one a piece.

Jason Pawloski rejected 35 shots on goal for Austin. The Bruins registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Tim Shaughnessy made 27 saves for the Chill on 31 shots. Coulee Region incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
