Topeka outlasts Texas, 4-2CC-Arena Sat, Feb 23, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Topeka RoadRunners escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Texas Tornado. Topeka gained the winning advantage on a goal by Tyler Poulsen 5:32 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. The RoadRunners got the win behind a great game by Poulsen, who had two goals and one assist. Topeka racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 12 minors and one major for 49 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 23.0 minutes per game the RoadRunners had been spending in the box. Kevin Patterson also scored for Topeka. More assists for Topeka came via Patrick Pollock, Kyle Sharkey, and Brandon Brossoit, who each chipped in one. Texas forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 51 minutes in penalty time. The Tornado surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. Texas made RoadRunners' goaltenders to work all game long, totaling 33 shots and forcing 31 saves. Spencer Viele made 16 stops and Mackenzie Sawyer made 15. The Tornado stifled Topeka's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Texas was helped by Scott Conway, who finished with one goal. Conway scored on the power play 13:49 into the second period to make the score 2-2. The Tornado had gotten the advantage when the RoadRunners' Michal Pastor was sent off for holding. Anthony Mousseau picked up the assist. Texas also got a goal from Jackson Leef as well. Other players who recorded assists for Texas were Nick Neville, who had one. Topeka registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. Texas' Hunter Leisner stopped 18 shots out of the 22 that he faced. The Tornado registered two goals on 10 power play opportunities.
