Jamestown vanquishes Wenatchee in shootout, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Jamestown Ironmen defeated the Wenatchee Wild in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for nine attempts between the teams.

Jamestown came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Ironmen trailed 3-1 after a power play goal by Wenatchee's Evan Schmidbauer at 8:48 in the second period. Jamestown knotted things up at 1-1 on a goal by Noah Nelson at 5:29 in the second period.

The Ironmen pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 20 penalty minutes.

By firing 36 shots on goal, Jamestown exceeded the 30.7 shots it averages per game this year.

The Ironmen were helped by Dylan Zink, who tallied one goal. Zink scored on the power play 11:48 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Wenatchee. Jamestown had gotten the advantage when the Wild's Trevor Stewart was sent off for hooking. Brett Szajner provided the assist. Jamestown also got a goal from Nicholas Sierra as well. Other players who recorded assists for Jamestown were Michael Mazzotta and Tyler Dunagan, who contributed one a piece.

Wenatchee kept the Ironmen's goalie busy throughout the game, and Joe Ballmer made 34 saves on 36 shots. The Wild could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 38 minutes in penalties during the game.

Wenatchee was led by Max McHugh, who finished with one goal and one assist. McHugh scored 5:37 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wenatchee. Jacob Barber assisted on the tally. In addition, Wenatchee received assists from Joshua Hartley and Nicholas Kuchera, who each chipped in one.

Jamestown registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Nick Schmit recorded 33 saves for the Wild. Wenatchee registered one goal on seven power play opportunities.
