Brookings vanquishes Aberdeen in shootout, 3-2 (3-2 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Brookings Blizzard defeated the Aberdeen Wings in a shootout 3-2 (3-2 SO).

The two teams needed 14 turns to complete the shootout. Aberdeen's shootout goals were scored by Justin Parizek and Erik Baskin. Brookings' other shootout goals were scored by Evan Hesse and Eric Brenk.

The 46 shots that the Blizzard put on net surpassed Brookings' average of 29.4 shots per game this season.

The Blizzard were helped by Brenk, who grabbed one goal. Brenk scored 6:47 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Brandon Parker provided the assist. Brookings also got a goal from Thomas Williams as well. Other players who recorded assists for Brookings were Justin Moody, Hesse, and Eetu Karvinen, who each chipped in one.

The Wings were helped by Jordan Heller, who finished with one goal. Heller scored on the power play 16:47 into the third period to make the score 2-2. A tripping penalty on Cody Marooney had put Aberdeen on the power play. Parizek picked up the assist. Steven Johnson also scored for Aberdeen. More assists for Aberdeen came via Jake Horton and Peter Krieger, who contributed one a piece.

Drew Weigman recorded 21 saves for Brookings. The Blizzard incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Wings' Zach Nagelvoort stopped 43 shots out of the 45 that he faced. Aberdeen incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
