Springfield downs Michigan, 2-1Dort Event Center 1 Sat, Feb 16, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Mike Severson grabbed one point to lead the Springfield Jr. Blues to a 2-1 victory over the Michigan Warriors. Springfield managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Jr. Blues wound up below its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. Tom Cooney also scored for Springfield. Other players who recorded assists for Springfield were Terry Leibo, Mitch Rogge, and Jon Carkeek, who contributed one a piece. Michigan's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Springfield power plays. The Warriors were led by Jon Farkas, who scored the team's only goal. Farkas scored on the power play 7:47 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Michigan earned a power play opportunity when Alex Baskakov was put in the box for too many men. Brock Labelle provided the assist. Stefanos Lekkas made 24 saves for Springfield on 25 shots. Dillion Kelley rejected 23 shots on goal for the Warriors. Michigan incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
