Topeka outlasts Wichita Falls, 3-2Kay Yeager Coliseum Fri, Feb 15, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The game between the Topeka RoadRunners and the Wichita Falls Wildcats was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Topeka emerged with a 3-2 win. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Tyler Andrew secured the win for the RoadRunners with a goal in the third period. Sean Gaffney had a great game for Topeka, netting two goals. Gaffney found the back of the net 14:43 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Topeka and again while 2:25 into the second to make the score 2-0 Topeka. With 30 shots on target during the contest, the RoadRunners exceeded the 23.7 shots they average per game this year. In addition, Topeka received assists from Peter Halash and Jerad Tafoya, who contributed one a piece and Kyle Sharkey and Brandon Brossoit, who each chipped in two. Wichita Falls was led by Rudy Junda, who racked up one goal and one assist. Junda scored 2:09 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Chris Knudson picked up the assist. Eliot Grauer also scored for Wichita Falls. Other players who recorded assists for Wichita Falls were Colin Staub and Kyle Bauman, who contributed one a piece. Spencer Viele rejected 22 shots on goal for Topeka. The RoadRunners incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Wildcats' Evan Cowley stopped 27 shots out of the 30 that he faced.
