Waterstreet's goals lift Soo to 5-1 victory over JamestownPullar Stadium Sat, Feb 09, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Behind a great game by Chris Waterstreet, who had two goals, the Soo Eagles defeated the Jamestown Ironmen, 5-1. Waterstreet's tallies came on the power play at 11:21 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Soo and 19:00 into the third to make the score 4-1 Soo.Jamestown was stymied by Soo netminder Tyler Marble, who stopped 46 shots during the victory. The solid play of Marble will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.25. The Eagles pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 20 penalty minutes. Soo's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on nine Jamestown power plays. The Eagles' offense was clicking better than usual and put 36 shots on goal during the game, better than the 28.9 shots per game they average. Soo also got points from Eric Rivard, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Jared VanWormer also scored for Soo. Other players who recorded assists for Soo were Sean Murphy, who had one and Alexander Taulien, who had two. The Ironmen were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. Jamestown had been averaging 16.0 minutes in penalties per game. Soo was unable to stop the Ironmen from sending pucks towards the net, and Jamestown eventually piled up 47 shots on goal. The Ironmen were led by Luc Gerdes, who scored the team's only goal. Gerdes scored 16:56 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Huba Sekesi picked up the assist. The Eagles registered one goal on nine power play opportunities. Joe Ballmer recorded 31 saves for Jamestown. The Ironmen ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Tyler Minx was ejected from the game.
