Kalamazoo beats Michigan 3-0 as Due-Boje gains shutout

Marcus Due-Boje recorded a shutout against the Michigan Warriors as the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings picked up a 3-0 win.

Kalamazoo was sparked by Danny Hamburg, who had one goal. Hamburg scored on the power play 9:04 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kalamazoo. The Jr. K-Wings had taken the advantage when Michigan's Heinz Koster got sent off for checking from behind. Matt Wurst provided the assist.

Kalamazoo stifled the Warriors' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Jr. K-Wings was steadier on the defensive front than they have been for much of this season. Kalamazoo allows 2.8 goals per game. By firing 36 shots on goal, the Jr. K-Wings exceeded the 30.2 shots they average per game this year.

Kalamazoo additionally got points from Mac McDonnell, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Lucas Kohls also scored for Kalamazoo. Other players who recorded assists for Kalamazoo were Nick Kovalchik, who had two and Patrick Spellacy and Brendan Vetter, who each chipped in one.

Michigan could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Warriors average 2.4 goals per game. With 46 shots on target during the contest, Michigan exceeded the 21.9 shots it averages per game this year.

The Warriors were led by Colin Larkin, who took seven shots.

Marcus Due-Boje made 46 saves for Kalamazoo on 46 shots. The Jr. K-Wings incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Trevor Gorsuch rejected 33 shots on goal for Michigan. The Warriors incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
