Soo holds on for 5-4 win against Johnstown

The Johnstown Tomahawks tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Soo Eagles held on for a 5-4 victory.

A goal by Denver Pierce put Soo up 5-3 in the third period, but Johnstown pulled to within one on Cody Gylling's tally 19:47 into the third period.

The Eagles were led by Pierce, who had one goal and one assist. Pierce scored 18:18 into the third period to make the score Soo. Brandon Adams assisted on the tally.

With 30 shots on target during the contest, Soo exceeded the 27.0 shots it averages per game this year.

Soo additionally got points from Adams, who also had one goal and one assist and Alexander Taulien, who also registered one goal and one assist. Soo also got a goal from Kyle Froese as well. More assists for Soo came via Cody Von Reuden, Alex Robert, Robin Hoglund, and Matt Menta, who contributed one a piece.

The Tomahawks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Eagles to score on any of their three power plays. The 30 shots that Johnstown put on net surpassed the Tomahawks' average of 26.5 shots per game this season.

Johnstown also got points from Jordan Watt, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Cobi Smith-Mass also scored for Johnstown. In addition, Johnstown received assists from Ian Spencer, Mitch Hall, Jesse Kessler, and Mitch Kontny, who each chipped in one.

Tyler Marble recorded 26 saves for Soo. The Eagles ended with 31 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. Soo ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Eric Rivard was ejected from the game. Chris Truehl rejected 25 shots on goal for Johnstown. The Tomahawks incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
