Port Huron survives Johnstown comeback, wins 5-4Cambria County War Memorial Fri, Feb 01, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Johnstown Tomahawks tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Port Huron Fighting Falcons would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 5-4. Port Huron took a 5-3 lead during the third period, only to have Johnstown storm back on a Mitch Kontny goal 18:58 into the third period to pull to one goal down. The Fighting Falcons got the win on the strength of a great game by Rick DeRosa, who had two goals and one assist. DeRosa scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 8:33 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Johnstown. Port Huron earned a power play opportunity when Dakoda Menslage was put in the box for holding. Dunk Abbott picked up the assist. DeRosa's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Port Huron with 4:57 left in the second period. Brett DAndrea provided the assist. The Fighting Falcons forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 12 minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 17.0 minutes per game Port Huron had been spending in the box. The 30 shots that the Fighting Falcons put on net surpassed Port Huron's average of 24.9 shots per game this season. The Fighting Falcons found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Port Huron has scored at the pace of 2.7 goals per game during the current campaign. Team could not crack the Tomahawks' penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having 10 opportunities to play with the man advantage. Port Huron additionally got points from Easton Powers, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, DAndrea, who also tallied one goal and two assists, and Bryan Yim, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Port Huron were David Parrottino, who had two and Ian Miller and Nick Horne, who each chipped in one. The Johnstown penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 10 minors and two majors for 60 minutes in penalty time. The Tomahawks surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. Johnstown's offense was clicking better than usual and put 33 shots on goal during the game, better than the 25.6 shots per game it averages. Johnstown also got points from Cody Gylling, who also registered one goal and one assist. Connor Wright also scored for Johnstown. In addition, Johnstown received assists from Jake Fairchild, who had one and Casey Nelson and Jordan Watt, who each chipped in two. Max Milosek rejected 29 shots on goal for the Fighting Falcons. The Tomahawks took out Chris Truehl after he had made 17 saves and installed Collin Brennan in goal, where he finished with eight saves and the loss. Johnstown registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. For the Tomahawks, Fairchild was ejected from the game.
