Amarillo blows out Texas, 5-1Amarillo Fri, Feb 01, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Amarillo Bulls were firing on all cylinders against the Texas Tornado, and when the final buzzer sounded Bulls emerged with a 5-1 win. TJ Sarcona was all over the ice for Amarillo, as he finished with two goals in the win. Sarcona found the back of the net 17:20 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Amarillo and again while 8:41 into the third to make the score 4-1 Amarillo. Texas' power play was ineffective against the Bulls' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. Amarillo put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Tornado to score on any of their six power plays. With 43 shots on target during the contest, the Bulls exceeded the 32.4 shots they average per game this year. Amarillo additionally got points from Tyler Gernhofer, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Gage Christianson also scored for Amarillo. In addition, Amarillo received assists from Blake Roubos, who had two and Brady Ferguson, Dan McNamara, Ryan Cole, Clint Carlisle, and Matt Sieckhaus, who contributed one a piece. Texas' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Amarillo power plays. The Tornado were below their usual level of shot production, taking 19 shots compared to the 30.0 Texas averages. The Tornado's offense operated below they season average. Texas puts an average of 3.9 pucks into the net per game. The Tornado's defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. Texas gives up 2.5 goals per game. The Tornado were led by Brandon Platt, who scored the team's only goal. Platt scored 4:36 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Texas. Justin Greenberg assisted on the tally. Amarillo's Paul Berrafato stopped 18 shots out of the 19 that he faced. The Bulls ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. Hunter Leisner recorded 38 saves for Texas. The Tornado ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
