Wenatchee uses shootout to best Kenai River, 2-1 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Wenatchee Wild defeated the Kenai River Brown Bears in a shootout 2-1 (2-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for eight attempts between the teams. In addition to the clincher, Wenatchee got a shootout goal from Jacob Barber.

The Wild were led by goalie Robert Nichols, who finished with 32 saves while allowing one goal. Nichols managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.96 prior to the game.

Wenatchee kept Kenai River's goalie busy throughout the game, and Marcus Zelzer made 29 saves on 31 shots.

The Wild were led by Chris Kerr, who racked up one goal. Kerr scored 4:23 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wenatchee. Noah Nelson provided the assist.

The Brown Bears racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with five minors and three majors for 35 minutes in penalty time. Kenai River had been averaging 17.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Brown Bears put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Wenatchee to score on any of its five power plays. The Wild were unable to stop Kenai River from sending pucks towards the net, and the Brown Bears eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Kenai River was led by Zac Lazzaro, who scored the team's only goal. Lazzaro scored 19:57 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Conor Deal picked up the assist.

Wenatchee ended with 29 minutes in penalty time with two minors and three majors. The Brown Bears registered one goal on three power play opportunities.
