Kenai River vanquishes Janesville in shootout, 3-2 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Kenai River Brown Bears defeated the Janesville Jets in a shootout 3-2 (2-0 SO).

The two teams needed seven turns to complete the shootout. Kenai River also got a shootout goal from Albin Karlsson.

The Brown Bears excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Kenai River's offense was helped by the efforts of its defensemen, who managed to put 14 shots on net during the game. The 32 shots that the Brown Bears put on net surpassed Kenai River's average of 25.3 shots per game this season.

The Brown Bears were helped by Alex Jackstadt, who racked up one goal. Jackstadt scored 15:28 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Kenai River. Alec Butcher assisted on the tally. Kenai River also got a goal from Ryan Walker as well. More assists for Kenai River came via Jacob Davidson, Judd Loewenstein, and Mikhail Bushinski, who contributed one a piece.

Janesville's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Kenai River power plays. The Jets relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Conor Lemirande, Kucerovy and Jason Ford took 13 of the team's 24 shots.

Other players who recorded assists for Janesville were Ryan Dau, Zach Diamantoni, and Todd Koritzinsky, who each chipped in one.

Marcus Zelzer recorded 22 saves for Kenai River. The Brown Bears ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. Janesville's Brock Kautz stopped 29 shots out of the 31 that he faced. The Jets ended with 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors. Janesville ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Pedlan Ruslan was ejected from the game.
