Brookings vanquishes Bismarck in shootout, 4-3 (2-0 SO)VFW Sports Center Sat, Jan 19, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Brookings Blizzard defeated the Bismarck Bobcats in a shootout 4-3 (2-0 SO). The shootout featured seven attempts between both teams. Brookings also got a shootout goal from Eric Brenk.The Blizzard overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Brookings was down 3-2 after a goal by Bismarck's Adam Knochenmus at 15:57 in the second period. The Blizzard tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Casey Purpur at 18:31 in the second period. Brookings excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Blizzard were helped by Connor Andrle, who registered one goal. Andrle scored 18:42 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Brenk assisted on the tally. Drew Brevig also scored for Brookings. More assists for Brookings came via Thomas Williams and Spencer Peratalo, who contributed one a piece. The Bobcats stifled Brookings' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Bismarck put 39 shots on net during the contest, more than the 27.2 it averages per game. The Bobcats were helped by Bob Kinne, who finished with one goal. Kinne scored 16:10 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Bismarck. Matt Anders picked up the assist. Bismarck also got a goal from Stanislav Dzakhov as well. In addition, Bismarck received assists from Mike Dockry, Shane Omdahl, Travis Underwood, Cory Chapman, and Patrick Moore, who each chipped in one. Drew Weigman rejected 36 shots on goal for the Blizzard. Brookings totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 0-for-3 on the power play. Aaron Nelson recorded 20 saves for Bismarck. The Bobcats ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major.
