Austin hangs on, beats Coulee Region 3-1

The Austin Bruins took the lead against the Coulee Region Chill in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 3-1 victory.

A goal 19:30 into the the first period by Brandon Wahlin proved to be the game winner, and powered Austin to the victory The Bruins had gotten the advantage when Coulee Region's Sean Lang was sent off for hooking. Jay Dickman picked up the assist.

Austin was led by CJ Smith, who finished with one goal. Smith scored 2:42 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Austin. Jake Flynn assisted on the tally.

The Bruins excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. With 46 shots on target during the contest, Austin exceeded the 30.9 shots it averages per game this year.

Austin also got points from Dickman, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Austin received assists from Josh Bretner, who had two and John Simonson and AJ Reid, who each chipped in one.

The Chill were led by Andy Faust, who scored the team's only goal. Faust scored 9:52 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Austin. Jimmy Kortum picked up the assist.

Jason Pawloski rejected 22 shots on goal for the Bruins. Austin incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Coulee Region's Blake Cates stopped 43 shots out of the 45 that he faced. The Chill incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
