Texas uses big second period to beat Odessa, 10-2CC-Arena Fri, Jan 18, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Odessa Jackalopes allowed the Texas Tornado to net five goals during the second period and fell, 10-2. Texas got the win thanks to a great game by Justin Greenberg, who had two goals and one assist. Greenberg scored the first of his two goals at 8:50 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Texas. Alex Temby provided the assist. Greenberg's next tally made the score 3-1 Texas with 18:57 left in the second period. Brandon Platt assisted on the tally. The Tornado surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Texas has scored at the pace of 4.0 goals per game during the current campaign. By firing 36 shots on goal, the Tornado exceeded the 29.3 shots they average per game this year. Texas also got points from Nick Neville, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Scott Conway, who also registered one goal and two assists, Brandon Hawkins, who also finished with one goal and one assist, AJ Duggan, who also had one goal and one assist, and CJ Reuschlein, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Jackson Leef also scored for Texas. Other players who recorded assists for Texas were Michael Hoy, who had two and Louie Rowe, Brett Heikkila, Mitchell McPherson, and Mitchell Mueller, who contributed one a piece. Odessa put 21 shots on net during the contest, more than the 15.7 it averages per game. The Jackalopes' offense was helped by the efforts of their defensemen, who managed to put 10 shots on net during the game. Odessa was led by Jalen Krogman, who registered one goal and one assist. Krogman scored 9:31 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Odessa also got a goal from Mike Mezzano as well. Hunter Leisner rejected 19 shots on goal for Texas. The Tornado incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Jackalopes' starting goalie, Nick Deery, made 15 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Phil Heinle, who stopped 11 shots.
