Bismarck hangs on, beats Brookings 2-1VFW Sports Center Fri, Jan 18, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Nate Repensky scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Bismarck Bobcats held off the challenges of the Brookings Blizzard in a tough 2-1 win. A goal 11:48 into the the first period by Repensky proved to be the game winner, and powered Bismarck to the victory The Bobcats earned a power play opportunity when Jordan Stejskal was put in the box for holding. Bob Kinne picked up the assist.Brookings was stymied by Bismarck netminder Aaron Nelson, who stopped 40 shots during the victory. Nelson managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.74 prior to the game. The Bobcats were led by Ryan Callahan, who registered one goal. Callahan scored 12:29 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Bismarck. Cory Chapman assisted on the tally. The 36 shots that Bismarck put on net surpassed the Bobcats' average of 27.2 shots per game this season. In addition, Bismarck received assists from Joe Giordano and Filip Starzynski, who contributed one a piece. By firing 41 shots on goal, the Blizzard exceeded the 26.3 shots they average per game this year. Brookings was led by Eric Brenk, who scored the team's only goal. Brenk scored on the power play 11:46 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Bismarck. A holding penalty on Starzynski had put the Blizzard on the power play. Evan Hesse picked up the assist. Bismarck incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Brookings' starting goalie, Erick Majerle, made five saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Drew Weigman, who stopped 29 shots. The Blizzard incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
