Johnstown rolls over Soo, 6-2Cambria County War Memorial Sun, Jan 13, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Johnstown Tomahawks were firing on all cylinders against the Soo Eagles, and when the final buzzer sounded Tomahawks emerged with a 6-2 win. Johnstown was led by Jaycob McCombs, who tallied one goal. McCombs scored 3:06 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Johnstown. The Tomahawks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Soo to score on any of its five power plays. Johnstown bested its season scoring average. The Tomahawks average 3.1 goals per game. Johnstown was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 21 penalty minutes. With 34 shots on target during the contest, the Tomahawks exceeded the 27.8 shots they average per game this year. Johnstown also got points from Connor Wright, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Johnstown included Andrew McDonald, who had two and Brandon Reinholz and Mitch Kontny, who scored one goal each. The the Eagles penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and two majors for 42 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 17.0 minutes per game Soo had been spending in the box. The Eagles' normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. Soo gives up 2.5 goals per game. The 35 shots that the Eagles put on net surpassed Soo's average of 30.0 shots per game this season. The Eagles were led by Pat Thompson, who had one goal. Thompson scored 2:41 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Johnstown. Sean Murphy picked up the assist. Soo also got a goal from Brandon Adams as well. More assists for Soo came via Jared VanWormer, who had one. Chris Truehl made 33 saves for Johnstown on 35 shots. The Tomahawks registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Soo's starting goalie, Tyler Marble, made 17 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Zach Nagelvoort, who stopped 11 shots.
